1. The Grant - Humphreys Mansion, built in 1902 by James B. Grant, is a superb, thirty room mansion. In 1911, Grant died, and his widow sold the mansion to Albert Humphreys. Today the mansion, listed on the National Registry of Historic Places is well worth a visit.
2. The Denver Mint, opened in 1863 after the discovery of gold in Denver in 1858, produces over 50 Million coins per day and is open to the public. Many relics and artifacts are displayed here.
3. The Denver Botanical Gardens, a horticulturist's paradise, contains one of the most spectacular orchid displays in the US. In the Marnies Pavilion, one can see a beautiful indoor waterfall and the dazzling display of orchids. One can easily pass the day here, as there are two excellent places to eat while one enjoys the spectacular views.
4. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science show some of the most exciting exhibits of any museum in the USA. If one is traveling with children, this is THE place for them to learn, hands on about nature and science. The T - Rex Café offers a fun place to eat, making it a comfortable place to spend the day.
5. Pike's Peak cannot be missed on a trip to Denver. Located just 10 miles from Colorado Springs and well worth the trip, one finds this spectacular mountain rising over 14,000 feet. One cannot think of Colorado without thinking of Pike's Peak. Kathleen Lee Bates wrote the classic song America the Beautiful in 1893 after her view from Pike's Peak.
6. The Molly Brown House Museum, the home of the "Unsinkable Molly Brown" is filled with memorabilia of this famous survivor of the sinking of the Titanic. Nearly destroyed in 1970, a group of concerned Denver citizens pitched in to save this landmark.
7. The Forney Museum of Transportation contains, according to their website, "Anything on wheels." Here, one will find locomotives, antique automobiles, airplanes. It is such a fantastic place; one can spend an entire day here. There is a café on the site, so if one is into transportation, this is "the" place to visit.
8. The Denver Zoo contains over 3,500 animals from over 650 species. One of the top museums in the US has been available since 1896 when it began with a gift of a black bear to the mayor. What a place to visit!
